Homework for week of 10/26: Last week of quarter!

This is the last week of the quarter. Make sure everything is in and done well, including your journals 5-8. If you have questions, please see me.

Due Tuesday: Final draft of Sold essay. Your paper should be well edited and should have MLA format.
For block day: study vocabulary words
For Friday: Have new independent book and vocabulary quiz
For weekend: Read first 25 pages of independent reading book.

Homework for week of 10/19

Our work this week centers around the essay we are writing. This essay will count both towards your first quarter numerical grade and it will also count as the standard for writing for the quarter. If you did not download the essay assignment and rubric in class, then download it now under Helpful Documents. Also, please download the outline as well.

Due Tuesday: Thesis statement and topic sentences due.
Due Block day:Outline forms due
Due Friday: First four paragraphs due at the beginning of class. Also, journals 5-8 due.
Due Monday, October 26: Full rough draft of essay due.
Due Tuesday, October 27: Final draft of essay due

Here are your journals for Sold.  As we complete a new one, I'll add it here. These journals 5-9 are due Friday, October 23rd.
Journal #5:
Describe the details of the clip. What do you notice about the scenery, both in Nepal and Bombay? How are they different? Describe the girls and women in this video. What does it make you think about?

Journal #6
What are the conflicts in the book so far? What do you think is Lakshmi’s biggest problem? Why? As you write, please use specific examples from the book.

Journal #7
Seven days ago, __________________________________. Now, no one will talk to me.
Fill in the blank and then expand this idea to explain both what happened and how the character feels about this reaction. Does he/she think it is fair? Does s/he feel badly for what happened? Get us into the mind of that character.

Journal #8
Imagine Lakshmi after the story ends. Based on what you know about her character and circumstances, write a new ending to the book a year after she leaves the brothel. You may write in the same form as the book or choose a different style. However, write in her voice.
