week of 10/27

This quarter ends on Friday! Make sure all missing assignments are in and the map assignment due on block day gets in on time! Also, the curious incident of the dog in the night-time should be complete by Monday, November 3rd. We'll work on a compare/contrast essay in class that week. Also, no vocabulary this week. We'll have ten words next week.

Monday and Tuesday: Read to page 179 in curious incident. Map assignment due on block day. See handout from class under helpful documents.

Block day: Read to page 200 in curious incident.

Friday: Finish book for Monday. Complete questions, pp. 164-end.

Monday and Tuesday:
1. Read up until page 119 of curious incident. Quiz on pp.90-119 on block day.
2. Study new words (AM/IM words) and review PAC words. Complete quiz in vocabulary book on pp. 7-8.

Block day:
Read up to page 140 of curious incident, chapter 181. Study for quiz on HOSP/AM words on Friday.

Friday
: Read up to page 153 of curious incident, chapter 193 for Monday. Work on map project, due 10/29.

homework week of 10/14

This week is short and there are PSATs for period three, so there will be no new vocabulary this week. Here is your work this week, due Friday, 10/17:

Read up to chapter 147 in curious incident (mid page 90). You may take notes on these pages and you will be able to use them for the quiz on Friday.

Quiz on Friday will cover pp. 22-90. I am looking for comprehension on plot and character. There will be 3 inferential questions too.

You should read between 20-25 pages a night to reach this goal.

Since this is a short week due to conferences on Thursday and Friday, our schedule is slightly shifted.

The vocabulary quiz for HOSP/HOST words and PAC/PEAS words will take place, instead of on Friday.

Read up through page 22 (until the beginning of section 71) of the curious incident of the dog in the night-time. Answer questions 1-9.

Homework for week of 9/29

Your BIG task of the week is to work towards a final draft of your essay on Monday, October 6th. Please make sure you are meeting the smaller deadlines this week. It will make the process much easier for your final draft. Also, see the rubric/ assignment sheet, SQE sheet and outline template under "Helpful Documents" on the far right column , if you forgot your hard copy at school.

Monday: Complete the thesis and statement boxes of your SQE sheet. If you haven't already, get progress reports signed.

Tuesday: Complete paragraphs 2,3, and 4 on the outline, except for transition sentences. Review PAC/PEAS vocabulary.

Block Day: Complete Outline. Study for vocabulary: BELL words and PAC/PEAS words.

Friday: Complete final draft of essay, due Monday.

Homework for week of 9/22

Your biggest task is to complete your book for Friday. As you go, notice how the protagonist is changing from the beginning of the book. What ideas or choices is s/he making that reveal these changes? You will have to write about this idea and analyze it for our essay next week.

Monday: Read 15 minutes or to meet daily goal. Study "bell" words and root. Bring in $5 for vocab books.
Tuesday: Read 15 minutes or to meet daily goal. Make sure you have asked and answered an inferential question on your daily personal assessment sheet. Study "bell" words and root.
Block Day: Finish book. Vocabulary quiz on bell words on Friday.
Friday: Get progress report signed by parent or guardian. Bring book for essay work on Monday. Bring $5 for vocabulary book.

Tuesday: Read 15 minutes at home. Make sure journals 1-4 are complete
Block Day: Read 15 minutes at home. Study for quiz on reading strategies.
Friday: Read 15 minutes at home. Make sure you have reached your weekly goal by Monday.
